He who plants a garden plants happiness.--Chinese Proverb
And there is no doubt that anyone passing by this home will be filled with the happiness these owners have given, not only to themselves, but to everyone who lives in the hills of Old Agoura. This is not just a pretty garden, or a colorful garden, or a well-tended garden – it’s a fantasy garden, nearly 1/2 acre of almost every kind of flower grown in Southern California. And at this time of the year, it is begging to be admired and strolled through. Enter the front yard, with its split-rail fence, to the side, its raised-vegetable beds brimming with tomatoes, to the back, housing pear and peach trees. And here in the back, is a huge elm tree, a swing and hammock beckoning. What better way to enjoy this delicious scene than by sitting on the flagstone deck, or in the Jacuzzi, water spilling from the waterfall above. Beyond the stone wall that surrounds the property is a mile of flat land before it hits the Santa Monica Mountains, giving a massive sense of space to the setting.
But let’s not forget the home, where two unique features capture our attention in every room: stunning, custom doors and windows. Leaded-glass French doors, with vibrant stones mimicking the gorgeous colors outside; French doors opening to the patios, and a large window-seat in the kitchen sparkling
with a rainbow of leaded-glass, glittering in the sun. One side of the home holds formal dining and living rooms, an adobe-style fireplace, with hand-painted tiles. Beyond this is a bright family/kitchen area, this time with a Moorish fireplace and tiled hearth. The kitchen is complete with tiled island, Viking stove, and pantry. Adjoining is a laundry room and half-bath.
Occupants of the master suite on the opposite side of the house have the good fortune to face the lovely back yard; this suite holds a walk-in closet with custom built-ins, plus a granite bath. Two other guest bedrooms share a large bathroom, with dual sinks and shower. These rooms face miles of horse trails, bordered by giant oaks.
Though it’s time to leave, we want to linger……….with the butterflies and hummingbirds in their vibrant flurry through these happy gardens, this fantasy that some lucky Californian will soon call home.
